How To - Configure Dynamic DNS in Cyberoam

 DDNS (Dynamic DNS) is a service that maps Internet domain names to dynamic IP addresses. DDNS serves a similar purpose to DNS. Unlike DNS that only works with static IP addresses, DDNS is designed to support dynamic IP addresses.

One needs to configure the dynamic DNS service in Cyberoam when the Cyberoam’s external (WAN) interface is assigned dynamic IP address. 

Cyberoam supports following DDNS providers:

  • DynDNS
  • ZoneEdit
  • EasyDNS
  • OrgDNS
  • DnsPark

This article describes complete procedure to

1.       Register hostname with DynDNS service provider

2.       Configure DDNS in Cyberoam.


  • Configuration steps are provided assuming one wants to register hostname with DynDNS Service provider
  • First step (Registration) can be skipped if the user already has DDNS account or he wants to register with service provider other than mention above.

1.       Register Hostname with DynDNS Service Provider

  1. Browse to http://www.dyndns.com
  2. Click “Create Account” link.


  1. Enter the required details to create the account.


  1. Once the user account has been created, logon to the DDNS service provider’s site by using the username and password.


  1. Select Service as ‘Dynamic DNS’.
  2. Press Get Started tab.


  1. Select ‘Host Services’  
    1. Add New Hostname


    1. Once the host is created, it will be displayed in Host Services


    1. After every 60 seconds public IP for the host will be changed.


    Configure Dynamic DNS in Cyberoam 

    1. Logon to Web Admin Console
    2. Go to System -> Dynamic DNS Configuration -> Create Account


    1. Enter valid values in required fields as per guideline given below.

    Host Name Detail

    Host Name

    Specify hostname that you registered with your DDNS service provider (created in step 8)


    Specify description

    Service Provider’s Detail

    Service Provider

    Select Service provider as “DynDNS” or with whom you have registered your hostname

    Login Name and


    Specify your DDNS account’s login name and password as configured in step 4

    IP Detail      

    IP Address

    Select WAN Interface if Cyberoam WAN interface is assigned Public IP address. IP address of the selected interface will be bound with the specified host name.

    Check IP Address using

    Specify whether DDNS should check for server IP address update through standard or non-standard port.

    IP Update Checking Interval

    Enter the time interval after which DDNS server should check and update the IP address of your server i.e. Cyberoam if changed.

    For example if time interval is set to 10 minutes, after every 10 minutes, DDNS server will check for any changes in your server IP address

    1.  Click “Create” button to save the configuration.

    Testing Dynamic DNS Configuration 

    You can test your Dynamic DNS by following ways:

    • Access your Cyberoam server using the host name you have registered with DDNS service provider -If you are able to access Cyberoam then your configuration is correct and DDNS is working properly.
    • Ping your host - If you get the IP address of your external interface then your configuration is correct and DDNS is working properly.

    Manage Account 

    Check the IP address updation status from the Manage Account page. It also displays the reason incase updation was not successful.

    1. Go to System -> Dynamic DNS Configuration-> Manage Account
    2. Click the hostname to be updated.
