Implement Content Filtering on IM Applications

Applicable Version: 10.00 onwards
 
Overview
 

Scenario

Configure IM Content Filter to block any Credit Card, Visa and Passport Numbers if they appear on users’ chat conversations.
 

Configuration

 You can configure IM Content Filtering by following the steps given below. Configuration is to be done from Web Admin Console using Administrator profile.

Step 1: Add RegEx to IM Content Filter

Go to IM à Content Filter à Content Filter and specify the RegEx under RegEx List for Content Filter. Here, we have entered ^((4"d{3})|(5[1-5]"d{2})|(6011))-?"d{4}-?"d which represents any Credit Card, Visa or Passport Number.
 
 
 

Step 2: Enable Content Filter in IM Conversation Rule

Go to IM à IM Rules à Conversation and select the default conversation rule ‘conversationrule1’.
 
 
 
 
Enable Content Filter in conversationrule1 and click OK.
 
 
 

Step 3: Enable IM Scanning in Firewall Rule

Go to Firewall à Rule à Rule and select Default Rule 1: LAN_WAN_AnyTraffic.
 
 
 

Enable IM Scanning in LAN_WAN_AnyTraffic and click OK.

 
 
 
The above configuration enables scanning of chat conversations in Yahoo and MSN messengers. If any user sends a message containing a Credit, Visa or Passport number, the message is blocked by Cyberoam and an error message is displayed on the user’s chat window.
